A Moody, Modern Space for a Men’s Clothing Store
By cleverly incorporating refinished existing elements and introducing new functional features, we created a space worthy of a brand that’s perpetually evolving.
An established men’s clothing store, Citizen Clothing was relocating from a suburban area to Victoria’s downtown core. Working with the design team, we delivered a flexible new space that builds on and even expands their existing brand. From the moment the client engaged the design team, there were four weeks to the store’s opening. We worked directly with Bidgood + Co. to design and fabricate simultaneously. We were also working with a concervative budget, which we met by playing with simple materials and concepts.
We reclad the existing platform for the change area in plywood and wrapped it with a vinyl decal, an inexpensive yet effective solution. After many rounds of trial and error, we created a suspended dowel and weight display, which serves as a practical and visually appealing “weightless” feature in the centre of the space and integrates the rope found in the client’s logo. Most significantly, Bidgood + Co. conceived of a design for a striking and ultra-functional display wall that our in-house carpenters quickly engineered and fabricated using readily available materials.
